  • Helvetica.  Dir.  Gary Hustwit.  Swiss Dots/Plexifilm, 2007. DVD. A documentary that explores the impact of typography—the Helvetica font in particular—on the way we interact with text in a variety of mediums.
  • The Library of the Early Mind: A Grown-Up Look at the Art of Children’s Literature. Dir. Edward J. Delaney. 2011. DVD.  An exploration of the art and impact of children’s literature, this film features nearly 40 authors and illustrators talking about their work, its genesis and its impact. The words that have stayed with me are those of publisher Francoise Mouly, who states that “What kids are eager for is organization.” 
  • Page One: Inside the New York Times. Dir. Andrew J. Rossi. 2011. DVD.  An inside look at the inner workings of the New York Times’ Media Desk. “With the Internet surpassing print as our main news source and newspapers all over the country going bankrupt, Page One chronicles the transformation of the media industry at its time of greatest turmoil.” There is also an accompanying book with the same title.
